How to Play Poker - 3 Steps to Profitable Sit And Go Texas Holdem Poker

If you know how to play poker, you have probably heard of sit and go texas holdem by now. If not, here's how they work: Sit and go poker is basically a one poker table tournament. They buy-ins can range from less than a dollar all the way up into five figures. One difference is that the blinds increase more quickly than in tournament texas holdem. So how does this affect your strategy?
With sit and go texas holdem, you will become short stacked much more quickly than you otherwise might in tournament poker. And you have to play differently when you are short stacked. And you want to stick around because more people end up cashing (in the money) at sit and go poker games.
Sit N Go Strategy #1 - You have to pay very close attention to your stack size compared to the blinds and the other players. In sit and go, you'll want to play very tight in the beginning. You don't want to lose a big hand early, or you'll quickly find yourself in real trouble when the blinds increase. You don't want to try stealing blinds early in sit n go texas holdem. They aren't worth the risk of being short stacked when the blinds increase.
Sit N Go Poker Strategy #2 - Remember the Alamo. Okay, not really. But you do have to remember the difference between calling a raise or making a raise yourself. You need to have a much better hand to call a raise than you do to make a raise yourself. This is called the "Gap Concept", which is discussed at great length in David Sklansky's book, "Tournament Poker for Advanced Players."
Sit N Go Poker Strategy #3 - Play tight poker early in the game. Let the weak players play themselves out of it by playing weaker hands and getting short stacked when the big blinds roll around. With the payout structure of sit n go texas holdem, you can stick around until you are in the money by playing tight poker and only chancing premium hands. As players get eliminated and the blinds increase, you'll need to change your strategy if you want to win, but playing tight early gives you a good chance of finding yourself in the money.
